When I read the first book in this series, I fell in love with the lively Lady Gwyn. She's been getting ready for her London season and she's getting up there in age so she has to land a proposal. But before heading off, an old suitor comes back to threaten and blackmail her. So her brother decides to send their estate's game keeper and ex-soldier with her as her bodyguard. But things are not as simple as they all suspect and she's got plans and secrets of her own.⁠

I'm always a sucker for a historical romance with a class disparity. Due to the hero also having an injury from his time at war, he walks with a cane and has plenty of scars. That doesn't detract him from wanting to fulfill some mission in his life. That might've been my favorite part about this story. Joshua isn't a flashy alpha hero, but he's got a lot of heart and determination. He doesn't let his shortcomings stop him from wanting and achieving more in his life. That goes for both getting the girl and also with his career.⁠

This was a fun read, even if maybe a little less memorable than the first book in the series. However, I'm still looking forward to reading more from this series and author.⁠

This was the book I didn't know I needed. The Embraced series has been one of my favorite fantasy romances the past few years and when I saw we were getting more in this world I was extremely excited. I will add in a warning right off the bat. While this is a new "series" it's very much not a standalone. I wouldn't consider this book even a spin off. It's just literally the next installment in the Embraced series. We are still following one of the main friends getting her HEA and it very much picks up on things that happened in one of the previous books. So with that in mind, I do recommend you read the previous books in the Embraced series before reading this one so you can understand what's going on.⁠

Like I said, this is one of my favorite fantasy romance series and this one takes place in the Kingdom of the Elves which is new. I really enjoyed that as well as the hero's affinity to wood and his ability to communicate with trees or make any type of wood do anything he wanted! But comparing this book to the previous ones I would say is a little less developed. Both in terms of overall world building as well as the gift/power of the main characters. The heroine's gift was almost non-existent or used.⁠

But I still enjoyed the story. A little more laid back and simple, the romance a tad insta lovey but it didn't bother me. And definitely a slow burn romance. Which made sense in the middle of what was happening around them.⁠

I'm probably more excited about the next book which is finally about Brody.⁠

If you are looking for a fantasy series with unique world building and great slow burn romances, look no further. Every installment here will be a good read including this one.⁠

I found audiobooks back in 2008 and I never looked back. Since then, some years I listen more than others but one of my resolutions this year was to be a lot more consistent listening to audiobooks again. The most important thing for that, to me, is good earphones. ⁠

I have been reading nothing but romance lately and read two two star books this past weekend, so now I’m dying to read something new. I picked up Chain of Gold and all I want to do is read more fantasy! I picked up Furyborn by @clairelegrand from @halfpricebooks after hearing really good things about it from @chandlerainsley. Firefighters, anyone!? I love romances with a man in a uniform and Ignite on Contact by @jaciburton came out earlier this month. This is about a firefighter who doesn’t want to be tied down and an ER nurse who is taking care of her grandfather and doesn’t have time for a fling. But she’s super intrigued by the firefighter who has been there for her and her grandfather. I can’t wait to read it! Thanks to @berkleyromance for the copy! .

Anyone else ready for summer? By the end of February I’m always yearning for summer days and hot weather! A series that makes me dream of summer is the Palm South University series by @kandisteiner! It’s a series about college students (think of a mix between Gossip Girl and Greek) and it’s so addicting! We’re getting book 5 in July and I am so pumped! Are you a fan of angst!? I sure am and when I read the synopsis for Together We Caught Fire, I knew I had to read it. Lane has liked this guy for a long time and he suddenly becomes her stepbrother. Living in the same house makes it hard to fight their attraction, but he also happens to be dating Lane’s friend Sadie. Lane befriends Sadie’s older brother and the two grow closer. Everything leads to a tragic event and Lane has to decide what she really wants. This book sounds like it has some complicated relationships and I cannot wait to read it!
